Cheese and Prosciutto Galette

Literally a pizza pie

A galette is essentially a freeform pie, and it’s so fun to get creative with what you fill it with! I decided to make a delicious savory version with lots of cheese and some prosciutto as well! This is literally a pizza pie and it’s one of my new favorite things to make.

 This recipe serves 5 people

  Ingredients:

For the crust:

½ Cup (113g) Cold Unsalted Butter, cut into cubes

1 ½ Cups (180g) All Purpose Flour

1/8 Tsp Salt

6 Tbs Ice Water

  For the filling:

8 Oz (226g) Fresh Shredded Mozzarella

4 Oz (113g)Fresh Grated Parmesan

5 Pieces Prosciutto, cut into chunks

½ Tsp (1g) Dried Oregano

¼ Tsp Black Pepper

¼ Tsp Garlic Powder

Directions:

1.     To make the crust, add the butter, flour and salt to a food processor and pulse until the butter is the size of peas, then add the water and pulse until the dough comes together.

2.     Dump the dough onto a floured surface and collect into a disk, then cover with plastic and chill for 20 minutes.

3.     To make the filling, add all of the ingredients to a bowl and toss together.

4.     Preheat oven to 400 Degrees F (205 C). Roll the dough out into a 10-inch circle, about ½-inch in thickness, and place it on a sheet lined with parchment paper.

5.     Put all the filling in the center of the dough, leaving a 2-inch border around the edge. Fold the edges up over the filling, leaving the center exposed, and brush with egg wash which is just one egg mixed with 1 tbs of water.

6.     Bake for 35-40 minutes, until the dough is golden brown, and the cheese is brown, bubbly and melty. Allow to sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before cutting.
